Description

Vintage Watch Condition Examination: This vintage Datejust is in overall great, honest vintage condition consistent with age. The case is in great condition with some scratches and normal signs of wear. The numbers are clearly visible between the lugs. The inside caseback is stamped “6305 2 1.55.” This watch has retained its correct “Brevet” style crown and “roulette” style date-wheel. The engine turned bezel is in great condition and the details are still prominent. The dial is in good, attractive condition and has developed patina throughout with some marks that are hard to notice. The red “Datejust” text has remained vibrant. The dial shows some “radium burn” in the center and around 12; radium burn refers to the radium in hands “burning” the dial underneath from being stationary for a long time. The hands have developed patina/ oxidation and the hour markers have developed patina. The lume on the dial and in the hands has developed patina and aged to an attractive yellow color.  Description: Rolex Datejust 6305 The Datejust is one of the most iconic and enduring Rolex models. Introduced in 1945, it remains a cornerstone of the brand’s modern catalog. Like today, Rolex offered the Datejust in a wide range of dial variations back in the day—and the example we’re offering features some truly compelling details. This particular watch, a reference 6305-2 dating to circa 1954, is especially noteworthy because it comes directly from the family of the original owner. Even more remarkably, it includes the original box and papers—something rarely seen with watches of this age. A close examination of the documents confirms matching movement and case numbers. The paperwork also mentions the watch was purchased at PX Landstuhl Flir-Base on March 13, 1956, and it includes both the original guarantee and the Chronometer certification. Adding to the charm, the presentation box is unusually whimsical for Rolex, and it also includes a green embossed leather folder—larger than a typical passport holder—that houses the COSC papers. All together, it’s a well-preserved and unusually complete kit. The watch itself is equally compelling. The silvery-white dial has aged to a warm off-white tone with some patina throughout. The red “Datejust” text pops beautifully, complemented by a roulette date wheel with alternating red and black numerals—a detail we always appreciate. We’ve paired it with a tan leather strap that plays off the patina and aged lume perfectly, giving the whole package a warm, cohesive look. If you’re in the market for a classic Rolex with character and a bit of a twist, this is one to seriously consider.
